I sponsored your project because I’m a Stockton lass and music, especially vinyl records have played a major role in my life. My interest started when my older brother was rewarded with a Decca stereo record player for passing the eleven plus. I was eight, and in the 60’s teeny boppers had not yet been invented so I was quite young for the time to be a music fan.
Our first records were My Generation, The Who, I Cant Get no Satisfaction and a variety of other Stones releases.
My own first purchase was probably Marianne Faithful singing Yesterday. I enjoyed the B side better. I loved Marianne’s voice and thought she sounded like a fairy singing!!
Pocket money day was eagerly awaited in my house, and my brothers and I would hot tail it down to Lesley Brown’s on Stockton High Street to sit in the record booths and buy the latest releases. Later as a teen in the 70’s walking to visit friends with a pile of L.P’s under the arm was the coolest accessory and talking point.
I visited the shop when the fabulous Saint Saviour was playing, and was thrilled to see many of my own favourites in the store. The last vinyl I bought was probably a Thin Lizzy Album, and I am still a keen music fan as you will see from the photo. (with The View)
Good luck with the project. X Judy Jones
