Jeanie Finlay is a British artist and filmmaker who is obsessed with music and it runs through all her work. (Goth Cruise The most successful VOD title in IFC Free history!, Teenland (BBC4). Currently in production: The Great Hip Hop Hoax (BBC), ORION: The Man Who Would be King)
Jeanie grew up three miles from Sound It Out Records. She is somewhat partial to Bobbie Gentry, Scott Walker and all things Dolly. Since making the film she has started buying vinyl again, a lot of vinyl.

Hey, I just saw the trailer for Sound It Out, it looks really good. Congrats, look forward to seeing it.
Not sure how I ended up following you on twitter, I was looking for other local filmmakers in the Lincoln/Nottingham area and your name cropped up.
Anyway, best of luck with the festivals,
Justin

I just saw the film at Silverdocs. A nice little gem with good music and bizarre characters, especially the Status Quo guy who wanted to be buried in a vinyl casket. Congratulations on being selected for the festival.

[…] Jeanie Finlay, award-winning British artist and film maker was also on the panel and shared her experience of crowd funding with Indiegogo. She funded her film Sound it out on Indiegogo, a documentary about the last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, North East England. Finlay talked said crowd funding was first and foremost about engaging with the audience, giving as much as receiving. […]

Saw this today on a flight to Canada – absolutely loved it, heartwarming in such depressing social surroundings. Well done for making such a beautiful piece, everyone involved must be proud.

Watched the movie on a flight from Vancouver to Toronto on Air Canada. I lived in the Uk from 63-75 so this movie had me right away. Loved it! Thanks for sticking to your guns and making this piece of art.

Really enjoyed this on bbc3. Some fascinating and endearing characters. Some lovely shots of Stockton. Made me think of all the indie record shops I used to haunt in Glasgow during the 80s. Sad, how many casualties of big business and the internet there have been.

Saw the film in a lovely indie cinema in Edinburgh, great fun to watch. Spent my twenties playing in bands and touring in the North East, especially Teeside, great memories and some really fun gigs. Here’s to your continuing success with the film and beyond.

Just saw this documentary. It is one of the best pieces of social comment film I have ever seen. If you weren’t suicidal before it you will be after! It’s so sad – I hope David Cameron gets to see it. I cried lots. Stockton is a place where time seems to have stood still for the last 40 yrs. After seeing this I am inspired to quit my job and to start making movies:)
